We sit on the shoulder of Ushba, the twin-peaked mountain of Svaneti, where cows graze the alpine meadows, and the July sun melts the last of the winter snows into the lakelets known as Koruldi. Across the valley, separated from us by the river Mukhra and city of Mestia, shines the mountain range over which lies Racha; and above us reigns Mount Ushba with her white shawl of glaciers, whence rivers are born.
