We had not 1, not 2 but 3 clients tell us this week that even though they were married and even though one of the members of the couple was applying for a green card based on marriage, that they planned to file their taxes separately, as opposed to jointly. From an immigration standpoint, this is a bad idea. That’s especially true if you don’t have a lot of other marital evidence. Filing singly can really cause problems as discussed in today’s video.
