Seven Days in May is based on a novel of the same name by Fletcher Knebel and Charles W. Bailey II. It was published in September of 1962. Kennedy read the novel and encouraged the book's adaptation to film. It details a military coup against a President who's turned to peace and seeks détente with the Soviet Union. He released the book version of Rush to Judgment in 1966 and the subsequent documentary film the year after.
