Worst Collection Ever

Shawn Marek & Jen Stansfield

WORST COLLECTION EVER is a comic book podcast where Jen and Shawn poke fun at their own collection of random comic books with loads of crass sincerity and scattershot nostalgia. None of the books in the collection offer anything close to quality or financial worth but our love for all of it is as real as it gets.If you want to follow along, we like to read the books in sequential order as to track the lunacy in real time!Email the podcast and talk to the hosts at

Saga of the Swamp Thing #6 (1982) The SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING comes to an end as we finally make it to the Plague Ship, where Swampy encounters a frilly tentacle alien. It gets even wilder when a masquerade ball turns into a cyclops gathering at the stroke of midnight. This is a transitional book of sorts but lots to unpack such as Swamp Thing’s traversing half of the Eastern coastline on foot in a matter of hours and the best way to attack someone with a physician’s bag. Also, our back-up

Saga of the Swamp Thing #5 (1982) We keep rolling with our friend Swamp Thing as he takes on a bit of convalescence in a unaccredited hospital that stores a bunch of pink clones in the basement. It might very well be a sequel (or prequel) to BARBARIAN that Swampy has found himself wrapped up in. Regardless, it is a wild time with chokeslams, Swamp Thing back-body dropping security guards and an evil Captain Kangaroo running around. Also, our back-up story sees Phantom Stranger cosplaying as

Saga of the Swamp Thing #4 (1982) Happy Halloween Month! In honor of the spooky season, we start a run on some pre-Alan Moore SWAMP THING because nothing is more frightening than a moist, musty man covered in moss. Here, Swamp Thing finds himself in the back of a watermelon transport and is dumped in the path of a child-murdering demon. We also get a large helping of media accountability, DEATH TO SMOOCHY comparisons and swamp monster flexibility. As a bonus, there’s even a backup tale

Silver Surfer vs. Mephisto -- FIRST TIME EVER!

Worst Collection Ever ·

2024/09/27

Silver Surfer #3 (1968) It’s the debut of Marvel’s [kind of] Satan, Mephisto, as we close out our Silver Surfer run. Surfer saves the Earth girl from last episode but Earth is ungrateful and calls him a “rotten killer.” In response, Silver Surfer disables the planet with an EMP for about ten minutes, probably killing millions in the process. Meanwhile, Mephisto gets hot over Surfer giving humanity grief because that’s HIS job dammit. Find out how it all ends PLUS we discuss Mephisto’s hair

Silver Surfer #2 (1968) We’re back on track with the Silver Surfer’s earth-bound adventures as the Sentinel of the Spaceways attempts to figure out his place on this infernal planet. He starts out in Transylvania but Teddy Roosevelt runs him out of town. Then it is off to NYC (?) but since Surfer is practically nude, all they want to do is throw him in jail. Maybe warning the planet about the invading force of invisible reptilian aliens will endear him to us. Probably not but an alien’s gotta

[R]OHOTMU: Turner D. Century It’s the RETURN of the [RANDOM] OFFICIAL HANDBOOK OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE segment as Shawn goes it solo to explain the history and general existence of an arbitrary Marvel Comics character (circa 1986). Join as Shawn earnestly stumbles his way through the tale of Turner D. Century, the anachronistic Spider-Woman villain who rode a flying bicycle and had a flamethrower umbrella. Silver Surfer #1 (1968)So, ok, this is a REALLY GOOD comic book and not the worst of our collection BUT there is a lot to pick apart and make fun of because, my goodness, is Silver Surfer a dramatic boy! Join us as we talk about the Surfer’s first ongoing book where we learn about how extra he was as young Norrin Radd on Zenn-La. Dude was SO BORED on a planet full of peace and art and prosperity. Shadowpact #1 (2006)Shadowpact is a group of paranormal-flavored heroes investigating paranormal-flavored villains and calamities. I was going to make a sly comment and say they are “Justice League Dark with a recovering alcoholic monkey” but Detective Chimp kicks it both groups so I’ll just go kick rocks. The Secret crew seeks to stop the maniacal Malachi from whizzing all over the time-stream just to resurrect her ambivalent lover. All this at the cost of turning kindergarteners into early on-set Adam Sandlers and robbing Seattle of corn. Things get even worse when the malevolent (not Doctor) Strange shows up to

Daredevil #164 (1980)We’ve reached the end of this Daredevil “Marked For Death” storyline and it doesn’t appear that we’ve gotten anywhere. All we get here is a DD origin story - which is nice - but what does it have to do with him being targeted? Anyway, Daredevil shares his life story including tales about his school bully John Cena, how he became a pretzel snob and the time he watched his dad box Morgan Freeman. Daredevil #163 (1979)The Hulk rolls into town as we carry on with Daredevil not being so much “marked for death” as he is “marked for some really bad publicity” as Ben Urich closes in on his identity. Not only that, but DD has to deal with Bruce Banner spiking his fine china like a football, Foggy telling dirty jokes to priests and disco dudes sweeping up his ex-girlfriends. It will all be well if you just keep your cool on the subway and don’t let Mean Gene Okerlund put out his cigar on your
