1: Luiz showed and has shown a lot so far. He looks like a more sure footed, confident version of himself. We’ve all known he has the technical skill but too often he hasn’t made the best decisions or trusted his abilities. That seems to have been corrected. The runs he’s made off the ball thus far, his control with the ball at his feet and the finishes he’s had, it’s all been at a level and quality that we’ve yet to see consistently. 1: Really poor goal keeping from Gudino on the first goal. It was clumsy to give away the penalty and then really poor on the penalty kick itself. It’s usually always 50/50 on PK’s but he was already well off his line and diving right before the ball was even struck. At the time of writing this it’s not 100% clear but based on Pineda’s comments in the post game presser, it seems to him that Rocco have a thumbs up gesture while he was by the post which Rivas took as him saying he was set and ready when he wasn’t. 1: Sejdic had a helluva game. Him and Rossetto both were at their best. Sejdic had at least 3 tackles leading to turnovers that, at the very least, lead to good attacking sequences if not outright chances. 1: Austin, maybe more than any other team in MLS, is so good at making something out of nothing. It’s a metaphor for their whole season. They are a completely different team from last year and a legitimate cup contender. Reminds me a lot of us in ‘18. 1: Take everything you know about football and throw it in the trash when you’re being taken out to the ball game. For the first 20 minutes we looked like we couldn’t get adjusted to the play pen. Things just happen faster at Yankee standup. Counter attacks that normally wouldn’t be on for the opposition are here. 1: It’s very hard to be critical of the team’s play when they are just hit with injury after injury after injury. We’re so injured that Mikey is on the pitch. I mean we are coming to the point of not being able to have a full bench without 2’s call ups which truthfully, Mikey would normally be which truthfully is probably a big reason why the 2’s aren’t doing so well. 1: Not a good stretch for Alan Franco. Is his overall play horrible? No. Not really. But his mistakes are costing us goals and potentially points. Defending is a hard life. 1: Tremendous response after losing Miles. I’m absolutely gutted for him. Looks he he’s done his Achilles too and will then most likely miss out on the World Cup. I really didn’t see much different in terms of our attacking play today. We just finished chances. If you want to point to anything that’s different in this game I suppose being better positioned for opportunities in and around the box would be it.
