Jordan Peele’s latest release ‘Nope’ seems to be dividing fans and audiences. Having finally checked this out, I came out of the screening super impressed with his take on the sci-fi genre. It is an extremely refreshing and original story that will only get better on each viewing. Where the Crawdads Sing

Based on the 2018 novel of the same name, 'Where the Crawdads Sing' is the story of Kya; an outsider living within the marshes in North Carolina, who finds herself being blamed for the death of a former love interest. The mystery thriller wasn’t as ‘thrillery’ as maybe most would have liked, but I found the story overall surrounding Kya really investing. Excellent performances from Daisy Edgar-Jones and David Straitham, as well as some lovely cinematography at times. Full spoiler free thoughts in

PREY

Directed by '10 Cloverfield Lane’s' Dan Trachtenberg, 'Prey' brings a very stripped back and simple approach, something that the Predator franchise has desperately needed. The film has that familiarity, but also does things that are completely new and unique making this easily the best Predator film since the original. Bullet Train

Now this was certainly a fun ride for 2022. 'Bullet Train' is up there as best surprise package of the year. With a star-studded cast including Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King and plenty more, the film has a tonne of fantastic action, layered with laugh out loud humour that only enhances the experience of this 2 hour thrill ride. The Ritual

'The Ritual' was released back in 2017 and was one of the MANY films I frustratingly missed from that year. Based on the novel of the same name, the film centres around 4 friends hiking through Scandinavian woods, where terrifying things start to unfold. The vision from director David Bruckner is excellent, and you can tell he has seen enough horror/thriller films to know how to pay homage, but also, do things differently. Judge Dredd returned to the big screen in 2012 with slow-mo, guns and Karl Urban. The film did ok at the box office, however, not enough to ever gain a sequel – which is an absolute travesty. This is something I have been wanting for some time, and overall, I feel Deborah Chow and Disney really have delivered with this show. The final chapter in the ‘Jurassic Saga’ is here! Filled with a mega cast; old and new, as well as a tonne of dinosaurs, the film goes BIG. However, bigger doesn’t mean better, and I’d be lying if I was to say I wasn’t disappointed with this film and the story as a whole. The dino’s look great – and the amount of dino’s in this film is amazing, but the story falls short for this ‘Endgame’ level finale
