JMW Turner inspired impressionist painters like Monet. He was born 250 years ago, his face appears on the £20 note and he was played by Timothy Spall in a Mike Leigh movie filmed in the Petersphere. There is a BUT – that it will require the community coming together to ensure that weeds are removed manually over next year so that no treatment is necessary in 2026. Local man has been awarded for his bravery

David Higgins from Liphook was one of three men who rescued a crash victim from a burning car. He was commended by the Chief Constable in Reading for his bravery. The three men freed a driver of a car that crashed on the Portsmouth Road railway bridge just over a year ago, when others refused to help. Sadly, the man died at the scene. People still love a pen, say Hampshire Calligraphers

There’s a free exhibition of calligraphy at St Peter's Church until the 22 June, when it moves to Romsey Abbey and Portsmouth Cathedral. Members of Hampshire Calligraphers have produced these 60 exhibits of proverbs and poems written out with different styles of penmanship. Sarah Read , speaking to Mike Waddington, says people love a pen and there's nothing like receiving a handwritten letter and for special occasions they are approached to write commemorative or celebratory pieces.
