“Ex’s & Oh’s” by Elle King (f/ Robert Bacon)

One Hit Thunder ·

2026/05/13

In the midst of the late 2015 charts that featured the likes of Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Adele, and Drake, you’ll find Elle King, the raspy-voiced singer-songwriter whose sound was a cross between country and rock. Her Top 10 hit “Ex’s & Oh’s” was a critically acclaimed track that describes Elle’s past relationships with needy men and how they tend to come back to haunt her. The music video flipped gender roles and satirized the objectification of women by featuring a whole host of scantily-clad

“Move Your Feet” by Junior Senior

One Hit Thunder ·

2026/05/06

In 2003, the Danish pop duo Junior Senior took the world by storm with their irresistible dance song “Move Your Feet.” Accompanied by a perfect animated music video, Jesper and Jeppe’s introduction to the ears of millions seemed to position them for an enormous career. They were collaborating with everyone from The B-52s to the Looney Tunes, and raising the spirits of anyone who stumbled across their music. By 2008, however, they called it quits, never to reunite EVEN after the song took on a life

“Mercy” by Duffy

One Hit Thunder ·

2026/04/29

In 2008, Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy looked ready to take over the world of music. Her Motown-inspired single “Mercy” was a huge hit all over the globe (with the notable exception of the United States.) Despite its moderate chart success in the US, the song was featured in movies, TV shows, and it even earned her a Grammy. Duffy’s momentum continued into her second album, and just when she seemed poised to NEVER be discussed on a podcast about one hit wonders, her career suddenly hit the brakes

“How Do You Talk to an Angel” by The Heights (f/ Jim...

One Hit Thunder ·

2026/04/22

The Heights was a short-lived TV show about a diverse seven-piece band that aired on Fox in the early 90s. Each episode ended with a music video that kinda encapsulated the whole episode, and at the end of the pilot episode, a young actor named Jamie Walters sung a song so powerful that it would be the end of the road for, well, “End of the Road” from Boyz II Men’s epic 13 week run at #1 on the Hot 100. “How Do You Talk to an Angel” would then become the show’s theme song by the third episode, and

“Stick ‘Em Up” by Quarashi (f/ Dave Losso)

One Hit Thunder ·

2026/04/15

If you’re traveling back in time to the early 2000s to compete in the X Games, can I suggest an Icelandic rap-rock group to serve as the soundtrack for your halfpipe drop in? Yes, I’m speaking of Quarashi, a band that was one part Beastie Boys, one part Rage Against The Machine, and all EA Sports video game menu music. This week’s guest, comedian Dave Losso, wanted to discuss their closest thing to a hit: the upbeat “Stick ‘Em Up,” a song that will probably make you say, “oh yeah…I THINK I know

In the summer of 2009, La Roux released “Bulletproof,” an irresistible pop gem that combined a synth-heavy 80s sound with an instantly memorable chorus. The English duo’s androgynous vocalist Elly Jackson also provided a visual aesthetic that stood out from the crowd, and the single could be heard everywhere from dance clubs to public pools. 2026/03/18

When Deee-Lite dropped “Groove Is In the Heart” in 1990, it was simultaneously a throwback to the style and vibes of the late 60s while futuristic in its sound and worldview. A product of an open-minded New York City club scene, the group just oozed fun and positivity, and you couldn’t escape the unforgettable green-screened music video that featured Bootsy Collins, bodysuits, platform shoes, and the disembodied floating head of Q-Tip. Front and center for Deee-Lite was Lady Miss Kier, whose soaring
