She was the plaintiff in a suit against the county, accusing officers of sexual harassment among other charges. On October 4, 1990—18 days before her deposition in the case-- she drove away from her parent's home. Not far down the road she waved to her father who was headed in the opposite direction. Ben Charles Padilla was a 50 year old from Pensacola, FL. He was a licensed aircraft mechanic, flight engineer, and pilot of small airplanes. He was on a job in Luanda, Angola, overseeing the refurbishing of a 727. On the evening of May 25th, 2003, with the job almost completely done, an assistant and he went to the plane to test its engines. Minutes later the 727 rolled down the runway and took off.
