Wade Newgard and Brooke Legler were the respective men’s and women’s open champions at the Pipestone Country Club championship. The two-day event was conducted on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17-18, under ideal weather conditions. Newgard, shooting a two-day 153, was three strokes clear of second-best McCaden Biever. Dam bridge closed at Split Rock Creek State Park

The bridge over the dam at Split Rock Creek State Park has been closed due to a crack in one of the piers that supports it. Chris Ingebretsen, parks and trails supervisor for Blue Mounds and Split Rock Creek state parks, said park employees looked over the dam after the heavy rains and flooding in June and noticed that one of the support piers for the bridge over the dam had a “pretty severe crack.” The crack is thought to have been caused by weathering over time and not the heavy rains and f...
