As a brash but anxious young programmer in the before-time, I affected a standoffish attitude on the topic of games. Why would I learn to play a game as a human, I said, when I could just write a program to do it? When an office chess game got started at my workplace, I wrote a chess engine (a standard minimax search with α–β pruning) rather than learn anything about strategy or tactics. When my insufficiently requited love started hosting a meetup to play Zendo—a deduction game in which one player

Ever wondered about the bedrock principles guiding medical software validation? In this lesson, we delve into the FDA's seminal guidance document, the "General Principles of Software Validation" (GPSV). We'll explore its purpose, broad scope, and delve into critical distinctions between validating hardware versus software, emphasizing why software updates are a major source of recalls and why testing alone isn't enough. This session underscores the paramount importance of thorough documentation,

Frontier models still verbalize their misbehavior regularly in chain of thought. I (Dean) came in expecting that it would be hard for us to get the models themselves to admit they were misbehaving, and that existing pressures would have selected that behavior away in favor of motivated reasoning. While it's difficult to get them to do so in the output tokens, models often mention that they're misbehaving in the chain of thought: DeepSeek V4 Pro, Locked chip, raw reasoning: This approach is robust

Renan Santos tells how he built the Free Brazil Movement and worked out the doctrine, mobilized it into Brazil's Mission Party, and how the lessons of building an outsider movement apply in America and around the world.

When life feels chaotic, what is the first thing you do? The psychology of people who keep their house clean goes far beyond just being organized. It’s often a hidden coping mechanism.Uploaded 19-07-26Society praises a perfectly clean space as "having your life together." But neuroscience and behavioral psychology tell a very different story. If you can’t relax until every dish is washed and every pillow is straight, you aren't just neat—your brain might be in survival mode. In this deep dive, we

Monday Mayhem shows are a throwback to the roots of The Survival Podcast. Fast riffs on many topics in real time. No deep presentations or digging into the finer points of an aquaponics system. A mix of practical prepping, current news and economic trends, and real opinions you will never hear from mainstream or even most alternative media. Our lead story today is a very credible study about treating some skin cancers with a combination of DMSO and Vitamin C, of course you won’t hear a peep

After four days of testimony that trended in the top ten globally on X, MP Dean Allison joins The Sovereign Sphere to break down what actually happened during the National Citizens Inquiry, what it took to make it happen, and why he believes this conversation cannot be allowed to disappear from the public eye. We talk about gaslighting, military cover-ups, state media, the collapse of public trust, and what real accountability would actually require going forward. This is the debrief for

Overdose deaths keep climbing across most of the country. But one province did the opposite, and the results are hard to argue with.I sat down with Kym Kaufmann — former Deputy Minister of Mental Health & Addictions for Manitoba and now CEO of the Canadian Centre of Recovery Excellence — to break down exactly what Alberta is doing differently, and why it's working: • 36% reduction in overdose deaths since 2023 (vs. just 9% nationally — and only 1% if you remove Alberta)• 70% reduction

📝Tweet, 📄 Paper We introduce TasteVal, a benchmark that measures the experimental research taste of AI models on AI R&D tasks. We define research taste as the ability to pick interesting problems to solve, design experiments, and interpret experimental results. TasteVal measures the experimental component of research taste; given a fixed research problem, we measure how well a model iteratively designs experiments and draws conclusions from their outcomes. In the AI Futures Model,

You may have seen factions of the left being opposed to current attempts to regulate the AI industry, despite the fact that they clearly also want to stop AI. I think I can explain why we're talking past each other. To do this, I will define three different types of AI risk: AI does exactly what some random guy wants: hacking, biorisk, terrorismAI does exactly what people currently in power want (or puts people in power): military usage, job losses, wealth concentration, mass surveillanceAI does
