2025年9月23號花蓮縣馬太鞍溪堰塞湖潰決，相當6,000個標準游泳池的洪水夾雜土石傾瀉而下，灌入下游的光復市區，不幸造成19人死亡、5人失聯，是台灣最巨型的堰塞湖溢流潰壩事件。最近因為大雨，又出現新的堰塞湖並且溢流，幸好並未釀成災情，當然我們必須滾動觀察最新的狀況。不幸中的大幸是，台灣跨領域科學的防災與監測，早已建立預警系統，7月21號馬太鞍溪上游林地大規模崩塌，第一時間就掌握，雖然因為馬太鞍堰塞湖的量體實在太巨大，以工程手段處理困難重重，但及早發現，仍然讓我們多了準備的時間，規劃疏散並減少災情。本集節目連線訪問到的，就是透過地質科學的監測系統，第一位發現山崩與馬太鞍堰塞湖的學者：陽明交通大學土木工程系趙韋安副教授。這一集藉由教授的專業分享，說明馬太鞍堰塞湖的最新狀況，也幫助聽眾了解這次事件的始末。除了預警系統之外，有哪些地方可以做得更好？同時關注跟台灣山區地質密切相關的，如道路邊坡落石預警等重要議題。地質科學監測攸關人民生命財產安全，邀請大家一起來關心。
