Same story. Different narratives.

Understand narratives,
not just news.

When a story breaks, different outlets notice different things.

Some lead with data, others with impact.

Some move fast, others dig deep.

Stay informed not just about what happened,
but how it’s being framed.

Track how a story is told across sources, as it unfolds.

Bias is bad. Perspectives are good.

Support your media literacy.

On Symby, you’ll see established outlets and newcomers, careful reporting and attention-grabbing headlines, perspectives you’ll agree with and ones you won’t.

You’ll see sources you know and trust. And ones you don’t.

That’s the point.

Not because all sources are equal, but because knowing what narratives are out there is how you stay ahead of them.

If you’re looking to understand the whole picture, Symby was built to show you information from all angles, supporting media literacy and critical thinking.

Actually read the news

We don’t use AI-generated summaries.

You don’t need AI-generated summaries to get up to speed quickly because humans already do that. They’re called headlines.

Our take is that humans don’t just need to be ‘in the loop’ but that we need human judgment, discernment, and perspectives on what’s going on in the world.

Every time you read an AI summary of the news, it’s actually obscuring factual claims, the tone of the original pieces, and other important details of the story that could be essential to understanding what’s really going on.

Go beyond left and right.

People have more than one way of looking at the world, no one fits neatly into one camp or the other. The Media Compass shows you where a source is coming from as well as other coverage insights.

How to read the political values heat map.

This shows you where an outlet generally falls on our map, so you can understand the brand and editorial lean. It’s based on available information and for general guidance only. We always encourage you to read their content and form your own opinion.

The average position can change over time, so check back to stay up-to-date.

Sometimes an outlet won’t fall neatly into one part of the map, so we show you where some key issues being covered fall outside of their typical position on the map.

Why sharp readers read widely, and how this helps them fact-check

One source gives you a bearing. Several give you a position, and the most plausible version of what actually happened emerges where they cross.

Symby organizes coverage so you can compare, side by side, how a wide range of sources tackle the same topic or news story. Reading widely is built in.

More than just articles

Explore More, Connect The Dots

Social feed

Posts from newsrooms, official accounts, and other relevant sources, so you can track what’s happening without the rest of the noise that comes with social media.

Podcasts

News and knowledge shows, plus other content, playable inside the app or from our site. Designed for people who prefer that format, ideal for “news on the go”.

Knowledge search

Look up background information from the web, such as key terms, new concepts, historical or scientific detail, then return to the news better informed.

This is just the beginning

We’re building Symby for people like you.

You already think critically. You’re curious by nature, and you know the news is shaped by narratives, not just facts alone. You deserve tools that make it easier to spot those narratives and see the full picture.

The world doesn’t come to us unfiltered. No matter how carefully a story is told, lived experience shapes what gets noticed, how it gets interpreted, and what anyone makes of the underlying facts. We can’t guarantee you unbiased information. That’s why we’re committed to bringing you the next best thing: balanced coverage that makes it easier to compare how and why narratives are forming, so you can weigh them for yourself.

Thank you for joining us on this journey.

The people behind Symby

A small team, a big question.

We are a small self-funded team based in Europe (Switzerland / Germany) who built Symby out of our passion for news, internet technologies, media literacy, online wellbeing, and lifelong learning.

Combining the spheres of media and tech, we look beyond tech-only solutions to address the deeper challenge of how AI will affect our media landscape and our understanding of the world around us.

Our international team has a diversity of backgrounds, from Europe to North America to Asia.

What’s a ‘Symby’?

Our focus is on digital symbiosis

You could never ask a printing press a question and hear it answer back. Large language models can, and they now follow the internet as the next great disruptive force in human history. Newsrooms, journalists, and many other content creators, are all trying to figure out what the right balance is, with many rapidly adopting AI into their workflows. This puts them at the heart of this disruptive moment.

The name Symby reflects our focus on digital symbiosis, with the goal of making sure that the use of technology benefits humans as much as possible, and to defend the internet as essential human communication infrastructure.
