The Anatomy of an Apology EP 406

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/09/07

I’m sharing a link today to a Substack post by Shola Richards about the anatomy of an apology. It’s so good, and it’s absolutely worth reading. One part that stayed with me is the importance of centering the other person. When we apologize, it can be tempting to focus on ourselves. We mean well, but often we start by explaining what we meant or why we didn’t mean it. We might describe what we were going through, trying to prove that we’re a good person and are truly apologetic. But a genuine

Humble Boldness with Amy Lahmers EP 405

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/09/04

Today’s episode is a guest submission by my friend and business peer Amy Lahmers.Having the ability to be humble and approachable and to also be able to act with boldness when you need to aren’t always opposites. In today’s Daily Dose of Hope, Amy introduces the idea of “humble boldness” the courage to act with conviction while remaining teachable, grounded, and willing to listen. It’s boldness without ego and humility without passivity. Whether you’re leading a team, a business, a family, or

What If Things Are Working in Your Favor? EP 404

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/09/03

I recently learned the word pronoia.Did everyone else already know about this? It sounds like paranoia but it’s the opposite. Pronoia is the belief that the universe is conspiring in your favor. That sounds hopeful doesn’t it? I like thinking that good things are being lined up for me. And I think it’s perfect for those of us who want to create a more hopeful world. Pronoia doesn’t mean pretending that everything is easy or that bad things never happen. We know that isn’t true. It means

September New Year Vibes EP 403

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/09/02

We just turned the page to a new month, and here in the United States, it’s the beginning of a new school year. Maybe it’s the same where you live.Even if you don’t have children in school, there’s something about this time of year that feels like a fresh start. You might not know this about me, but I really love office and school supplies. The draw of a new notebook waiting to be written in is huge. Instead of crayons I now have sets of markers and the perfect pen. So while I really like the

Let Someone Be Generous to You EP 402

Receiving help can be harder than giving it, but allowing others to be generous creates connection. Sometimes the most hopeful response is simply, “Thank you. That would really help.”

Dolly Parton Ambassador of Hope BONUS REPLAY

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/27

I once heard someone refer to Dolly Parton as an American treasure, and that feels exactly right. She is beloved in the country music world, of course, but her popularity reaches far beyond it, and far beyond her humble beginnings in Tennessee. I think of Dolly as an ambassador of hope. She has always done things on her own terms while remaining thoughtful and generous toward others. In 2023, she published a beautiful book called Behind the Seams. It tells the stories behind the costumes, gowns,

The Days Go Slow, but the Years Go Fast EP 398

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/26

How is it possible that we’re already nearing the end of summer? Some days seemed to stretch on forever, yet somehow the season itself has passed in the blink of an eye. The older I get, the more I understand the saying: The days go slow, but the years go fast. It’s easy to move through an ordinary Tuesday assuming there will always be more time, more lazy summer days, more chances to take the trip, begin the project, sit on the porch, or call the friend we’ve been thinking about. But the

Someday Never Comes EP 396

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/24

Someday never comes. We know that intellectually. But it doesn’t always stop us from putting off the things we want to do or the experiences we want to have. Someday I’ll take that trip. Someday I’ll start writing. Someday I’ll learn how to do that. Someday I’ll call that person, start that project, take better care of myself, or finally make time for the thing I keep saying matters to me. The problem with “someday” is that it feels like a plan, but it isn’t. It has no date, no first step, and

Use Your Creativity EP 395

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/14

This is my occasional reminder to use your creativity. Not because you need to produce something impressive. Not because you should start a business, sell your work, or become an expert. Use your creativity because it’s good for you. Creative activities give our brains somewhere else to go. They can interrupt worry, help us process emotions, encourage curiosity, and bring us into the present moment. And here’s the best part: you don’t have to be good at something to receive the benefits of doing

Protecting Your Peace While Staying Informed EP 394

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/13

A friend recently told me that one way she is staying hopeful is by mostly ignoring the daily news. She said, “The world has always been a crazy mess. We just know more about it because of social media.” There’s some truth in that. We now have access to bad news from everywhere, all day long. Before we’ve even had our coffee, we can read about tragedies, conflict, injustice, and arguments happening all over the world. Being informed matters. Paying attention can help us make thoughtful decisions

Enough to Share EP 393

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/12

It’s time for a garden update and I am very happy to report that our tiny garden is thriving. This year, we’re getting tons of tomatoes and cucumbers. Not just enough for us, but enough to share. There’s something so satisfying about walking outside, seeing what’s ready, and bringing it into the kitchen. But being able to hand some of it to a friend or neighbor makes it even better. We’ve tried gardening before with mixed results. Some years, the rabbits and deer seemed to enjoy the garden more

Radical Generosity EP 392

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/11

I was on a call today and shared something I want to do in my business that involved gifting something to others. The person listening responded, “I’m here for radical generosity.” I love that term: radical generosity. It goes beyond giving when it’s easy or sharing whatever we have left over. Radical generosity asks us to think bigger. What could we offer freely that might encourage someone, open a door, solve a problem, or help another person believe in what’s possible? And generosity isn’t

Kindness Is a Decision EP 391

Your Daily Dose of Hope ·

2026/08/10

Recently, I saw Shola Richards wearing a shirt that said, “Kindness is a decision.” Shola writes a Substack called Strong Enough to Be Kind, which I’ll link to in the episode notes. That phrase, kindness is a decision, stayed with me. We sometimes treat kindness like a personality trait. Some people are naturally kind, and others aren’t. Or we think kindness depends on our mood, our circumstances, or how someone else treats us first. But kindness is a decision, a choice we can make for
