As the builders continue building the wall, we see the kinds of dangers we face as we seek to do the work of the Lord. In chapter 4 the problem is external opposition, in chapter 5 it's internal corruption. The danger they face is within the community and especially how they treat one another. It causes us to ask the question, are we 'Greedy Grabbers' or 'Generous Givers'? And which category does God fall into?

'Whenever God's people do God's work in God's way, it will not go unopposed' In seeking to do God's work, we don't go looking for opposition, but we must expect it and accept it and know how to respond to it. In this chapter we first see the nature of the opposition to God's work, and then explore four ways to respond.

As we move into chapter 3 the building of the wall begins, causing us to consider the question... what am I building? What's my life all about? Who am I working for? What am I trying to achieve? Through Nehemiah 3, we see what it looks like to work for the Lord. We consider the what, who, where and who of building. WHAT is God wanting us to build? WHO does he want to use? WHERE does he want us to do his work? And what kind of attitude shapes HOW we build?

In chapter 2, we see Nehemiah move from a desire and a prayer, to the beginning of a reality. It happens because 'the gracious hand of God is upon him'.
