The Sandwich Club

Susan Trodden and Tracey Olivier

The Sandwich Club is a podcast for women in the middle — the ones holding it all together while being pulled in every direction. Kids, ageing parents, work, money, relationships, changing bodies... and the quiet question of “is this it?” Hosted by two midlife women with different lives but a shared sense of humour, this is not a self-improvement podcast and it’s not a crisis either. It’s real conversations about the long middle — what’s shifting, what’s surprising, what’s quietly hard, and what’s

The Sandwich Club - Do not go quietly!

The Sandwich Club ·

2026/09/22

Dylan Thomas told us not to "go gentle into that good night", but then he wasn't dealing with dodgy knees, reading glasses and getting up twice in the night. This week we are borrowing his famous poem to talk about ageing. What are we fighting, what are we accepting and when did getting older become something we are all supposed to do so positively? Do you want to rage against the dying of the light? Or just make a little bit of a fuss along the way?

Why on earth did I buy that? We’ve all done it. Bought the thing that was going to change everything — make us fitter, calmer, more organised, or just... better. And then quietly left it in a cupboard. In this episode, we talk about the things we’ve bought, why we bought them, and what they were really about. It turns out it was rarely the item — it was something else entirely! A mix of optimism, regret, and a slightly overdue clear-out. The Sandwich Club is for women in the middle — juggling
