First Concert Memories #39: Public Image Ltd in...

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/10/03

On First Concert Memories 39 we are happy to welcome Andrew of Tunes From Turtle Island, our brother from Pantheon Podcasts, to recall a night 40 years ago in Brixton when Public Image Ltd took the stage. Not because it was a great communion of punks idolizing one of their true heroes in John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols, but because they may have witnessed the end of their own idolatry of a popular performer. Brixton is a tough part of London and John Lydon was allegedly

UAWIL #305: Scott Holiday on Topology

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/10/01

We at The Wolf are very proud to welcome back Scott Holiday to talk about The Wolf's favorite album of 2026 - his new solo album Topology. Created out of music Scott wrote intending to utilize with his world touring band Rival Sons, Scott never intended to make a solo record. But over time pieces he created eventually felt like something that wasn't RS but more personal to Scott. And with help from his RS bandmate Mike Miley (drums) and Jesse Nalen (keyboards) created Topology - the record The

UAWIL #304: Iron Maiden - Run For Your Lives 2026 in...

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/09/24

Longtime listeners of the program know that The Wolf and Action Jackson are big time Iron Maiden fans. We gave you a review of The Future Past Tour from Europe in 2023 (Ep #139) and from Stockholm last summer as they kicked off the Run For Your Lives Tour (Ep #239). So you might ask why would we travel at great expense and sit through a deluge that would cause Noah to get his woodworking tools out to see the same band on the same tour. But if you have to ask that, you've never seen an Iron Maiden

UAWIL #303: Black Sabbath - Mob Rules

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/09/17

Ronnie James Dio joining Black Sabbath really gave the band a shot in the arm. After declining returns with Ozzy in the late 70s, Ronnie's emergence as a singer and a songwriter helped push 1980's Heaven and Hell to platinum status in the US. The band and record company were eager to recapture the magic of Heaven and Hell but founding drummer Bill Ward had to replaced by American drummer Vinnie Appice, who stayed available during the Heaven and Hell Tour just in case Bill wasn't able to

UAWIL #302: AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/09/10

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap is an important part of AC/DC's catalog to their fans around the world. However, when and what you heard on the album varied from country to country. Originally released in Australia in 1976 with a cover that looked like something Angus drew with crayons after school, DDDDC featured some all time anthems like the title track and Jailbreak. But around the world not only would the cover be different but the songs and lengths of certain songs were changed based on what

We are as grateful as ever for your support and humbled by your enthusiasm for our rock n roll conversations and interviews. We have more up our sleeves so please stay tuned - now back to #301....Abacab was released in fall of 1981 after the debut of Phil Collins' first solo album, Face Value, which had gone mulit-platinum thanks to radio staples like In the Air Tonight and I Missed Again. First Concert Memories #38: David Lee Roth with Metal...

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/09/01

We are happy to welcome Metal Walt from Metal Mayhen ROC to talk about one of his first concert experiences from his teenage years - seeing David Lee Roth on the Eat Em And Smile Tour in 1986. Walt, like most kids from the MTV generation, saw Dave hamming it up in Van Halen videos like Panama and Hot For Teacher. Then Dave capitalized on that fame and decided to do a solo album, complete with fun MTV videos. So when Dave and his band came to New Jersey in October of 1986, Walt had to be

UAWIL #300: Rush - Live in Chicago

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/08/27

When we started the Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast in 2020, we were are still living with the near term effects of Covid. The Wolf lived just off Abbey Road in London and Action Jackson was at his family home near the Atlantic coast. To stay sane we decided to give each other homework - an album to review and then next week they'd discuss it. Because that's what they did as college roommates in the 90s with hard rock music tastes that tended to lean toward the generation before

UAWIL #299: Rush Live Preview

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/08/20

When Neil Peart died in early 2020, we figured we'd never be able to see Rush live again. And to a Rush fan like The Wolf who had seen them 12 times, met them backstage and had every album they ever released, it was a bummer. Not only would he never see one of his favorite bands again but he'd never be able to take The Wolfcub (whose seen KISS 3x, The Rolling Stones, Duran Duran, Yes and many more of The Wolf's faves) to see the spectacle of Rush live, nor could he see them again with Action

UAWIL #298: Boston (1976)

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/08/13

Most bands toil for years honing their sound, locking down their lineup, playing gigs around their hometown and then regionally before hitting it big. Though the predecessor to Boston, Mother's Milk, did play gigs in Massachusetts, the visionary on the sound that would become Boston's trademark was Tom Scholz. Tom was not your typical rock star in that he had a master's degree from MIT and was working as an engineer at Polaroid while strategizing on his musical career. He wanted to combine the

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/08/06

There's nothing better than hearing a new song that kicks ass! They don't promote rock n roll like they used to but when we heard Above The Noise from The Jetsetters - Britt Lightning (Vixen, Rock Band Camp) & Tommy London (SiriusXM) - we were immediately hooked. The track is straight ahead rock with sing-a-long choruses but more simply, it's fun. We're psyched to turn folks onto the track and were happy to speak with Britt & Tommy about Above The Noise and their band.Britt has visited us

We're happy to welcome back rock n roll comedian Don Jamieson to kick off Season 4 of First Concert Memories! To start off Season 4 of the monthly sidecast from your friends at The Ugly American Werewolf in London, Don's sharing his memories of seeing Iron Maiden open for Judas Priest in the summer of 1982.Yes, it's the same tour that Brian Slagel spoke about on FCM earlier this

UAWIL #296: John Timmons of Ear-X-Tacy

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/07/30

Everyone has their own personal favorite. The one place in town that had all the cool records. The place you didn't know existed until a friend took you there and you discover music beyond the mainstream. The place where you feel in the know ready to explore everything around you. That place is your local independent record shop. You got your first LP there or you found it in college and go comb the racks every other weekend. Louisville's Ear-X-Tacy was that for residents and

UAWIL #295: The Beatles - Revolver

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/07/23

As we've professed before on the program, The Wolf & Action Jackson are not the world's biggest Beatles fans. Don't get us wrong - we don't dislike The Beatles and we understand that all they did changed the world and the rock music we love. But they're not our go to, we're Stones fans at the end of the day. Whether you're a Beatlemaniac or not, rock fans owe an enormous debt to John, Paul, George and Ringo. By the summer of 1966, the lads had been around the world several times over, made

UAWIL #294: R.E.M. - Life's Rich Pageant

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/07/16

By 1986, REM were veterans of the college rock scene, had recorded in London and gotten songs into the charts. For their 4th album, Life's Rich Pageant, they took a step forward in stretching not only what they could do musically but voicing social, political and environmental concerns through their lyrics. We don't find it to be totally in your face (as opposed to say, U2) but more subliminal as their lyrics can sometimes be nebulous or at least not straight forward and not about rock cliches

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/07/09

Eric Clapton had achieved pop success with The Yardbirds but that's not what he wanted. All Eric wanted to do was play the blues. So he left The Yardbirds to join John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers where through many miles and many gigs honed a guitar sound & style that would create a mythology around Clapton like no guitar player before. Their gigs must see happenings as once they were into a groove, the Bluesbreakers could improvise their way into something spectacular. John Mayall wanted to

UAWIL #292: America at 250 - Top 10 Rock Songs About...

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/07/02

If you haven't heard, the USA is turning 250!! The Great American Experiment has endured for one quarter of a millenium and though it might not be a perfect place, it's home to both The Wolf & Action Jackson. This podcast may have been birthed while The Wolf was in the UK but as many fans of The World Cup are learning, America is a special place. And though most of our rock idols hail from the UK (or elsewhere that isn't the US), American plays a great part in the legacy of rock n roll. So

UP THE IRONS!! For the 2nd time in Season 3 of First Concert Memories we go back to an Iron Maiden show that your hosts never witnessed themselves. Why do we need another after hearing Brian Slagel, CEO/Founder Metal Blade Records, tell his story of interviewing Steve Harris afterwards on FCM 32 you might ask? UAWIL #291: 2nd To Last Led Zeppelin Songs Ranked

The Ugly American Werewolf in London Rock Podcast ·

2026/06/25

We've been doing our podcast for almost 6 years and with that time & experience, one does find patterns or tricks of the trade that pop up regularly. As The Wolf & Action Jackson have reviewed about 200 albums on the show and listened to thousands more, the boys observed something when it comes to tracking albums. Bands rarely leave the worst song on the album for the last track; however, they often slot the worst song as the 2nd to Last track on the record. Which makes sense - you don't want the
