Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists

Husband and Wife are two non-believers who have always wanted to read the Bible. Why would we subject ourselves to this you might ask? From our perspective it helps us understand where the Christians around us, here in the Midwest, are coming from when they quote the Bible at us. Husband is basically an Atheist and wife leans Agnostic but mostly Atheist and we’re just having some fun at the Bible’s expense while learning more about what our neighbors claim we’re going to hell over.Hosted on Acast

Mark Chapter 4 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/10/05

Jesus is back with more parables, more confused disciples, and apparently a personal vendetta against straightforward communication. In this Mark Chapter 4 Q&A, we dig deeper into the Parable of the Sower, aka Jesus throwing theological spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, and ask an inconvenient question: if God already knows which soil is good, why bother scattering seeds onto rocks and thorns in the first place? Then things get even stranger. Jesus explains that outsiders get parables so

Mark Chapter 5: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

Jesus gets out of the damn boat, and Mark Chapter 5 immediately goes completely off the rails. A man living among the tombs is supposedly possessed by so many demons that they collectively introduce themselves as “Legion.” Jesus casts them out, gives them permission to invade a nearby herd of roughly 2,000 pigs, and the entire herd promptly charges into the lake and drowns. The formerly possessed man is suddenly fine, the locals are terrified, and somehow Jesus is the guy they ask to leave. Maybe

Mark Chapter 4: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/09/30

Jesus is back, he’s on a boat, and apparently nobody told him that “sowing your seed” hits a little differently in 2026. Mark Chapter 4 launches into the Parable of the Sower, where seeds land on paths, rocks, thorns, and good soil... and somehow humanity gets blamed for God apparently being terrible at agricultural planning. Naturally, this sends us spiraling from biblical farming metaphors into Spock’s surprisingly active love life, corn on the cob, and the important theological question: if God

Mark Chapters 1 - 3 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/09/29

Mark wastes absolutely no time. No baby Jesus. No wise men. No genealogy. We start with John the Baptist dunking people in the Jordan, an alleged quotation from Isaiah that also contains Malachi, and Jesus getting baptized before launching straight into demons, healings, disciples, and religious controversy. Naturally, this raises questions. Why does Jesus need baptism? Did John invent the practice? Why do some manuscripts call Jesus the “Son of God” while others don't? And if this is the

Mark Chapter 3: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/09/26

Mark 3 opens with Jesus healing a man’s shriveled hand on the Sabbath, which apparently is a capital offense when you’re surrounded by religious rule-enforcers who think picking up sticks deserves death, but miracle-working gets a special theological loophole. The Pharisees respond to a supposed public healing by immediately plotting murder, because nothing says “holy law” quite like homicidal outrage over the calendar. Then Mark gives Jesus a crowd-control boat, a pack of demons who cannot keep a

Mark Chapter 2: Bible Study by Atheists

Jesus returns home to Capernaum, and because the healed leper from Chapter 1 couldn't keep his mouth shut, the house is packed wall-to-wall with people. Enter four wildly dedicated friends who decide the front door is for quitters: they haul a paralyzed man up to the roof, literally dig a hole through the ceiling, and lower him straight down in front of Jesus. Naturally, Jesus ignores the property damage, equates the man’s physical disability with personal sin (because biblical ableism never

Mark skips the virgin birth, the manger, and Baby Jesus entirely because apparently nobody has time for a backstory. Mark 1:1–45 throws us directly into John the Baptist dunking people in the Jordan, Jesus receiving the Holy Spirit like a divine software update, and Satan tempting him in the wilderness... with almost none of the details Matthew added later. Somebody clearly copied the assignment and padded the word count.Jesus assembles the first members of his “Tucci Gang,” teaches with unexplained

Introduction to The Gospel of Mark: Bible Study by...

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/09/17

Welcome to Marky Mark and the Synoptic Bunch, the earliest, shortest, and apparently most plagiarized Gospel in the New Testament. Before tackling Chapter 1, Husband and Wife investigate who actually wrote the Gospel of Mark. Spoiler: the text never identifies its author, “According to Mark” was attached later, and Christian tradition’s case for John Mark relies heavily on secondhand stories about what Peter supposedly remembered. Truly airtight documentation from the people who brought us “trust

Matthew Contradictions Part 2

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/09/12

Matthew’s contradictions are back for Part 2, because apparently one theological pileup wasn’t enough. This time, Wife and Husband tackle whether Jesus is God, whether God can be tempted, and why Jesus speaks to God like they are separate people before turning around and exercising powers supposedly reserved for God. The Trinity enters the chat, refuses to explain itself, and promptly eats Wife’s “whole entire ass.”The contradictions spread across Matthew, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers,

Matthew Contradictions Part 1

2026/09/11

Matthew finally ends (sort of...), but its contradictions apparently reproduce faster than Christians at a Quiverfull convention. After digging through more than 160 possible conflicts, Wife narrows the theological pileup to 14 questions for Part 1. Is Jesus a peacemaker, or did he come bearing a sword? Should believers quietly perform good deeds, or make sure everyone sees their holiness? Is calling someone a fool punishable by hellfire, unless Jesus is the one doing it? Once again, the call is

Matthew Wrap Up: And Q&A for Chapter 28

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/09/07

Matthew finally ends, and somehow its last 20 verses manage to cram in earthquakes, angels, an empty tomb, bribed guards, resurrected Jesus, doubting apostles, divine authority, the Great Commission, the beginnings of Christian separation from Judaism, and enough theological duct tape to keep church councils busy for centuries. We dig into Matthew 28 and ask the questions that apparently nobody at Sunday school was supposed to ask. If the guards were asleep, how exactly did they know the disciples

Matthew Chapter 27 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/08/27

Judas hangs himself, Pilate washes his hands, Jesus gets crucified, dead saints start wandering around Jerusalem, and somehow Matthew 27 still has time to squeeze in a questionable prophecy citation and one of the ugliest seeds of Christian antisemitism. This Q&A digs into Judas’s sudden remorse, whether his betrayal was about greed, politics, or forcing Jesus to finally do some Messiah magic, and the eerie parallel between Judas and Ahithophel from 2 Samuel 15–17. Then Matthew casually

Matthew Chapter 25 Q&A: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/08/11

Ten virgins walk into a parable, five forget their oil, and somehow the moral is not “maybe share your damn oil.” Welcome back to Matthew 25, where Jesus continues the Olivet Discourse with wedding attendants, an absentee rich guy handing servants enormous piles of money, and a final judgment that ends with humanity getting sorted like livestock. We dig into why the “virgins” are probably better understood as young unmarried wedding attendants, why their sexual status has absolutely nothing to do

Jesus is only days away from getting crucified in Matthew 26, so naturally the chapter begins with murder plots, an extremely expensive bottle of perfume being dumped on his head, and Jesus basically telling everyone, “The poor will still be here later. Right now, focus on me.” Coming immediately after Matthew 25’s whole feed the hungry, help the poor or face eternal punishment routine, the timing is... spectacular. Then Judas enters the chat with his famous 30 pieces of silver, and the whole concept

Matthew Chapter 25: Bible Study by Atheists

Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists ·

2026/08/07

Jesus apparently decided the best way to explain spiritual preparedness was with ten virgins waiting around for one extremely late bridegroom. Five bring extra lamp oil, five do not, and the unprepared women get locked out of the party because nothing says divine wisdom like an ancient wedding-themed anxiety dream. The moral is supposedly “be ready,” but Matthew 25:1–13 takes the scenic route through midnight oil shopping, shut doors, and a truly unnecessary amount of virgin identification. Then

Jesus leaves the Jerusalem Temple, climbs the Mount of Olives, and suddenly transforms from wandering moral teacher into a full-blown apocalyptic street preacher. In this Matthew 24 atheist Bible podcast breakdown, we unpack the Olivet Discourse, the destruction of Jerusalem, the “abomination that causes desolation,” falling stars, false messiahs, and Jesus repeatedly insisting that the end is coming very, very soon. The problem? Jesus leaves the temple, threatens its destruction, and launches into an exhausting Matthew 24 end-times prophecy packed with wars, earthquakes, famines, false messiahs, falling stars, trumpet-blasting angels, vultures, terrified pregnant people, and enough apocalyptic imagery to make Ghostbusters seem like a sober documentary. The problem? Jesus repeatedly makes it sound like this cosmic catastrophe is happening within his own generation. “This generation will certainly not pass away until all these

Jesus apparently woke up in Matthew 23 and chose theological violence. Gone is the soft-focus, lamb-hugging savior from the church murals. This Jesus spends nearly the entire chapter calling the Pharisees hypocrites, blind fools, snakes, vipers, filthy cups, whitewashed tombs, and children of hell. Nothing says “love your enemies” quite like publicly announcing that an entire group of religious leaders is doomed. We dig into Jesus telling people to obey the Pharisees while simultaneously insisting

Jesus rolls into Jerusalem on a donkey... or possibly two donkeys, depending on how badly Matthew understood Hebrew poetry; and immediately begins speed-running his transformation from wandering preacher to full-blown religious provocateur.
